A Taste of Sailing

Planning a vacation to the Eastern Caribbean? Has the thought of sailing in the Caribbean always intrigued you, but you are not sure a whole week on a sailboat is right for your first time? The crew of Skipping Stone now offers “A taste of Sailing.”

Come spend four days and three nights aboard Skipping Stone in the Grenadine Islands sailing, snorkeling and exploring the most beautiful archipelago in the Eastern Caribbean.

Suggested Itinerary

Fly into St.Vincent (SVD) and take the ferry to Port Elizabeth, Bequia, spending a few days exploring or relaxing on either island before meeting the crew of Skipping Stone around 11:00 AM at the dinghy dock in Admiralty Bay.

DAY ONE: Departing about midday Skipping Stone will begin your sailing vacation with a leisurely downwind run to West Cay, where Captain Andrew will point her bow toward Rameau Bay, Canouan. There we will anchor for the night and you can snorkel and swim in the calm, quiet waters. Dinner in the cockpit of fresh fish, island vegetables, fresh fruit and the beverage of your choice; is the perfect end to your first day with us on Skipping Stone. Being an uninhabited bay with no lights near-by, you may experience stars like you never have before and Nikki will see if the water fireflies are about that evening.

DAY TWO: After breakfast in the cockpit, we will set sail for the short run to the Tobago Cays Marine Park. Take the helm as Skipping Stone charges across the channel for a small pass in the reef, guarded by Andrew’s aptly named ‘Dragon’s Teeth’ Rocks.

As the anchor slips down to the sandy bottom in the crystal clear waters of the Tobago Cays Marine Park you can sense that you are in a completely unspoiled area of uninhabited cays and coral reefs, a very special place. Lunch in the cockpit followed by time in the water and a late afternoon hill climb which will yield unparalleled views (and photos) of this absolutely beautiful area.

Skipping Stone will remain at anchor in the Tobago Cays until mid-morning of the third day, allowing plenty of time to swim, snorkel (including a guided snorkel to the barrier reef by Nikki, conditions permitting) and explore the other islands of the archipelago, or just lounge around on Skipping Stone watching the turtles swim past.

DAY THREE: Feel free to take a pre-breakfast swim or snorkel as your crew prepares Skipping Stone for the next leg of our sail to Clifton, Union Island where you can explore the town while your crew clears Skipping Stone out of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Then we have another leisurely downwind run to Chatham Bay, where we will anchor for the night in this undeveloped gem with its long beach and calm water. Another great place to swim, snorkel or take a walk on the beach.

DAY FOUR: After breakfast, there will be time for more a bit more snorkeling, swimming or beachcombing before our short sail to Sandy Island, another unspoiled beautiful ‘desert island’. From there a quick run to Tyrrel Bay, Carriacou where your crew will clear Skipping Stone into the nation of Grenada. Lunch will be served aboard with plenty of time to pack. You can be sure that Captain Andrew and Nikki will see that you arrive on time for either the ferry to Grenada or the transportation to your lodging ashore and the rest of your Caribbean vacation.

The same trip can be done in reverse, with slight changes to the route to accommodate the weather.
